Roca Tile Group is the division of Roca Corporación Empresarial, S.A. dedicated to the production and commercialisation of floor and wall tiles. Created in 1979, it applies the same philosophy of respect for the environment established by Roca, a philosophy that is widely recognised at the international level along with an intense passion for design and an absolute obsession with quality. Roca Tile Group has been Spain’s largest tilemaking group since 1999.

Roca Tile Group offers only exclusive design products that make it possible to create styles and aesthetic finishes adapted to each user’s tastes and requirements, with the maximum respect for the environment.

Roca Tile Group’s corporate management model is based on full ecological awareness and respect for the environment. This commitment is shared with the parent company and has made it the only Spanish firm in the tiling sector that has achieved the Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA) and quality certificates such as ISO 14001, EMAS and ECOLABEL.

Greentiles is the materialisation of Roca Tile Group’s firm commitment to respecting the environment, a determination that goes far beyond the requirements of the current legislation. Solid evidence of this is provided by the rigorous programmes of continuous mprovement that are applied by Roca in its production plants and periodically audited, and the manufacture of ceramic woods and other alternative products to maintain and protect the natural environment. In addition to carrying out specific quality operations in each of its production plants, since 1992 Roca has applied the Lean Manufacturing method, a philosophy addressed to optimising the management of scarce resources in all areas.

Through the Greentiles concept, Roca Tile Group communicates that its commitment to the environment is present in all its products and all the stages of its manufacturing process, from initial design to final production, including distribution and the life cycle of the finished product.

Roca Tile Group’s products contribute to certifying the sustainability of buildings, in accordance with the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) system of the United States Green Building Council. This is possible because all of its products contain recycled pre-consumer material (as per ISO 14021) and offer an ecological guarantee throughout their life cycle, in accordance with the requirements laid down by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). For this reason, choosing Greentiles means not only choosing the finest design and the highest quality but also having a guarantee of preserving nature and protecting the natural environment.

All Roca Tile Group products contain recycled pre-consumer material (as per ISO 14021) and are fully ecological throughout their life cycle, meeting the materials specifications of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). This profound respect for the environment is also reflected in the recycling of production wastes, in the operation of logistical systems and even in the Group’s communications policy.

To produce Greentiles, Roca uses only the indispensable energy, resources and raw materials, constantly recycling and minimising the environmental impact of its industrial activity.
  • Zero-dumping factories since 1995.
  • Recycling of production sludges in factories.
  • Recovery of 280 million litres of water per year.
  • Reduction of the impact of transport on the environment by using raw materials from the vicinity of the Group’s production centres.
  • Compliance with the most demanding directives regarding purification of gases, applying the latest technologies in accordance with the annual monitoring and improvement programmes required by the EMAS.

Roca Tile Group applies energy optimisation projects in all its factories:
  • Use of natural gas, one of the cleanest fuels.
  • Cogeneration of energy by means of gas turbines, reducing 9.44 Tm of CO2 per year.
  • In-house generation of electricity, thus eliminating transmission losses.
  • Recovery of the sensitive heat of combustion gases of drying kilns.

The system applied to the production of Greentiles invests resources and technology in the reduction and recycling of wastes:
  • Recycling 100% of production losses and material rejected in quality control.
  • Since 1998, selective recycling of over 40 different types of wastes, recovering and reusing enamel wastes in the production line.
  • Recycling everything that cannot be reused in the production process, thus avoiding the dumping of 300 million kg of wastes per year in each plant.
  • Recovery of wastes from other industries for use as raw material in the production process.

In Greentiles logistics, Roca has implanted the reusable pallet (Europallet) since 1995, and also the use of recycled cardboard packagings, biodegradable inks and plastic recovery programmes.

The Human Resources Department transmits the Group’s environmental values to all the staff, fostering ecological programmes and selective waste recovery.
