The Making of Art with… Well, Art

Posted on 11 11 14

Seth Godin wrote, “your art is what you do when no one can tell you exactly how to do it. Your art is the act of taking personal responsibility, challenging the status quo, and changing people.”

If you find yourself walking by our corner store, you might catch a glimpse of our art. With installations spanning almost 86” tall, the work of local artist and architecture professor, Henning Haupt is housed here in our shop. But ascetic purpose aside, why indulge in the all this abstract when we’re just a simple, eco-friendly home improvement company? Well, that’s easy. This has always been about the art.

Sustainable solutions are the brush strokes on a piece of art we’re hoping we don’t finish. And though fancy metaphors may intrigue you enough to listen to how environmentally beneficial our supplies may be, we’re hoping Haupt’s White and Magenta on Gold will illustrate it. His work invites the audience to not only see what’s in front of them, but what can become of it.

There is art in everything we do. From the varying combinations used in decorating a home to the monolithic erosions on a mountain side. Each morning, this world begins anew as a canvas waiting for our decisions to coagulate into something worth calling beautiful. Well as Wayne White always says, “beauty is sort of embarrassing.” It’s certainly a hard thing to admit. Perhaps it’s what keeps a big part of South Florida stagnant when it comes to sustainability. And perhaps it’s what keeps most of us from the art we’re capable of.

Well, that’s where we hope to come in. By working with local suppliers for such things as timber and using Haupt’s work to illustrate the art in our line of products, we invite you to challenge yourself to create art not only for the modern day home, but for the modern day world.
